About the Subscription Cost Calculator
Subscriptions are designed to be easy to forget: a few dollars here and there, billed automatically. Surveys regularly find that people underestimate their subscription spending by a wide margin. Listing every recurring charge in one place, then looking at the yearly and five-year totals, is the quickest way to decide what is worth keeping.
Go through a couple of months of bank and card statements and include streaming video and music, cloud storage, apps, news sites, gaming services, meal kits, software, gym and warehouse-club memberships. Annual plans count too; they are often cheaper per month but easy to overlook when they renew.
Consider rotating streaming services, subscribing only for the months you watch, and switching to annual billing for services you use year-round.
Formula
Yearly total = Σ(monthly × 12) + Σ(yearly) + Σ(weekly × 52)
Monthly total = Yearly total ÷ 12
Example: five monthly plans totaling $55.45 plus two yearly plans totaling $238 cost $903.40 a year, or $75.28 a month.
