About the Shoe Size Converter
Shoe sizes are not a single standard. US and UK sizes come from the old barleycorn (⅓ inch) unit, with women's US sizes 1½ larger than men's for the same foot. European sizes measure the shoe's last in Paris points, and the Mondopoint system used in Japan and for ski boots simply gives foot length in centimeters or millimeters.
The best way to buy shoes online is to measure your foot: stand on a sheet of paper, mark the heel and longest toe, and measure the distance. Use the larger foot, measure late in the day, and check each brand's chart, since many brands round EU sizes differently.
Formula
The calculator converts every system to a UK size first and then to the others:
UK = US men's − ½ = US women's − 2
EU = (UK + 23.5) × 4 ÷ 3
foot length (in) ≈ (UK + 23) ÷ 3, foot length (cm) = inches × 2.54
US and UK sizes step by ⅓ inch (8.47 mm); EU sizes step by ⅔ cm (6.67 mm, a "Paris point"), so three EU sizes equal two UK sizes.

Does this work for children's shoes?
No. Kids' sizes use a separate scale, so this converter covers adult sizes only.
