About the Cat Pregnancy Calculator

Feline pregnancy lasts about nine weeks. Because cats are induced ovulators (mating triggers the release of eggs), the mating date predicts the due date more reliably than in many other species, although a queen mated over several days can carry kittens from different matings.

The first visible sign is usually "pinking up" of the nipples at around three weeks. Feed a high-quality kitten food from about the middle of pregnancy through nursing, and prepare a warm, quiet box lined with washable bedding. Contact a vet if your cat strains for more than 30–60 minutes without delivering, or if more than a few hours pass between kittens while she still seems to be in labor.

Results are estimates for general guidance and are not veterinary advice. Ask your veterinarian about your own pet.

Formula

Due date ≈ mating date + 65 days
Normal window ≈ mating date + 61 to 69 days

Cats ovulate in response to mating, so the mating date is a good reference point. Most queens deliver 63–67 days after mating, and births a few days on either side of that are common.

Example calculation

Using the default values:

  • Mating date = 2026-09-01

the calculator returns:

  • Estimated due date: Thursday, November 5, 2026
  • Normal delivery window: Sunday, November 1, 2026 – Monday, November 9, 2026

Frequently asked questions

How long is a cat pregnant?

About 63–67 days on average, roughly nine weeks.

How many kittens do cats usually have?

Most litters have 3–5 kittens. First-time mothers and very young or older cats often have smaller litters.

Can a cat get pregnant while nursing?

Yes. Cats can come back into heat within a few weeks of giving birth, even while nursing, so keep her away from intact males.
